General Physical Exam

  • WIPE, blah blah
  • “Take vital signs”
  • General inspection of the pt and surroundings

 

  • Hands:
    • Nails:
      • Clubbing
      • Peripheral cyanosis
    • Tremor
    • Pulse:
      • Rate\rhythm\volume
      • Collapsing pulse
  • Eyes: (daylight)
    • Pallor
    • Jaundice
  • Mouth:
    • Central cyanosis
    • Oral hygiene
    • Dehydration
  • Neck:
    • Cervical LN (mention that you should also palpate the axillary LN)
    • Thyroid (palpate + ask pt to swallow)
  • Edema:
    • Sacral
    • Lower limbs

 

  • Differential diagnosis of lymphadenopathy?
    • Infections: TB, CMV, EVB, HIV
    • Malignancy: lymphoma, leukemia
    • Inflammatory ds: sarcoidosis, SLE, RA
